Laura Roberts
Director
Laura is an experienced and successful NHS leader, executive coach and mediator who has operated at chief executive and board level for over thirty years.
She has a proven track record of delivery alongside award winning innovative and creative approaches to tackling deep seated issues and challenges.
Laura is recognised for a collegiate style, with strong values and a deep commitment to diversity, inclusion & participation. Her work as an Executive Director with Health Education England saw the achievement of record numbers of apprenticeships and strategies to improve & broaden access to all health professions, to more accurately reflect the whole population.
As the HEE national lead for EDI she sought to improve the performance of the organisation and created more channels for open and meaningful communication with staff networks.
After co-developing a toolkit to assess and develop Foundation Trust Board capability and capacity, Laura worked for the Leadership Academy reviewing products and programmes in respect of Board leadership. She provided on-going support for provider leadership development for aspirant FTs and targeted work for FT Governors.
Previously she spent over ten years as a Chief Executive in three different NHS organisations in Manchester - NHS Manchester, Manchester Mental Health & Social Care Trust and North Manchester PCT.
In her coaching practice, she offers a safe, supportive, productive yet challenging space for people to explore their issues. She utilises a range of techniques to draw out both the ‘explicit’ and the underlying themes and is keen to aid clients to work on the personal aspects of an issue, without losing sight of the organisational dimension as well.
Although the majority of clients are from within the NHS family, she is aware and conscious of separating her ‘professional leadership’ from work as a Coach. Clearly her extensive knowledge of the complex dynamics within and between NHS organisations and the broader political environment means that she often has real life insight into the situations which clients are experiencing. Many clients find that helpful in the work they do together.
Clients bring a wide range of issues including being aspiring directors and chief executives, dealing with organisational change, preparing for new roles, resilience in tough times and challenging relationships.
Feedback from clients has often emphasised the value they have gained from having open and direct conversations, taking a fresh look at their own assumptions & beliefs and taking steps to achieve their plans and ambitions.
Laura is a qualified mediator and has worked with teams to resolve differences in philosophy, personality, and practice. Her approach is to focus on finding workable, practical solutions that suit both the organisation and the parties directly involved.
